As a solopreneur, wearing all the hats can be exhausting and that’s why I love Koala AI – it’s like a handy little helper, ready to write content whenever I need it. It’s not my only AI writing assistant, but it sure holds a prominent spot. I’ve tried over 30 of these tools, I even developed several of my own, and I can confidently say, Koala is my top 1.
I’ve been on the AI content creation game for more than a year now. I’ve seen dozens of tools rise and fall. Koala has always been a strong contingent: and as of February 2024, it’s the winner: and by far. Nothing come close to it.

Pros of using Koala
The beauty of Koala is in its output quality. Seriously, it’s stunning. There are times when I’m left staring at the screen – not because I’m lost in thought but because the content is so good; I barely need to edit anything!
The SERP scraping is pretty cool. You’ll get plenty of data for your content generation. It seems like they use some short of backend fact checking tool, too.
The Google Scholar SERP scrape option is also great for more data-sensitive niches. Not a lot of products out there offer this.
Now, let’s talk about the links. Koala doesn’t just link to any random website. It’s smart. It links to quality sources that are relevant, increasing the credibility of my content. Oh, and data. Boy, does it love data! It never forgets to include the most up-to-date figures in the articles it writes, even the nitty-gritty like current repair costs for X thing.
It also does a pretty good job at internal linking. Links and anchors are on point. The 2024 internal link from sitemap feature is just impressive.
Their recent update includes free AI image generation and adds relevant Youtube URLs. That’s pretty neat. When AI does a good job with images for your niches, the images are great. But when it’s too technical for AI, you won’t have an option to use stock images.
The NLP (for SEO) score is great from the get-go with Koala, so you won’t have to do a lot of SEO optimization. forget about using stuff like NeuronWriter and Frase – they won’t be of any use with Koala.
The option to add your own data, prompts, per section is quite amazing.
The cherry on top? The tool is a master at getting straight to the point. No fluff, no unnecessary repetition, just top-notch content.
Cons of using Koala
But no tool is perfect, right?
All of what I described is great when you use… GPT 4 Turbo.
And that’s 2.5x the word count as GPT 3.5. Ouchies.
GPT 3.5 unfortunately repeats itself and doesn’t do a good job at external and internal linking. You’ll still need to edit a lot.
It will also often ignore your custom prompts.
Sure, it’s good… But GPT 3.5 level good. Which, really, isn’t that good. A lot of people rank using 3.5: but I personally despise the thing.
And my other big problem: The outlines. Gee. You’ll need to bring your own if you don’t want your readers falling asleep on ”Understanding why bla is bla” and Google thinking you’re not helpful.
Of course, most of people out there just do that as a baseline, I don’t know why, so maybe that’s not a problem for you!
The Koala Chat API doesn’t support Turbo 4, which is a big let down for me. I can’t use their chat to create the outlines the writer won’t do well.
If you don’t use APIs (or if you don’t even know what it is!) then, you can create your manual outlines for free using Koala Chat.
You’ll also need to manually push the images to your WordPress on publishing (takes 2 button to press but it’s still annoying)
Also, I would love it if I could use my own API keys with Koala. I mean, I’m not a cheapskate (maybe a little bit). I’d gladly pay for the feature. But it seems like the team behind Koala is missing out on this opportunity. Maybe they have their reasons, but it does feel like a letdown. They could limit us to a certain number of articles per month and it would safeguard them from abuse usage.
Comparison between Koala and SEOWriting
Now, if we were to put Koala and SEOWriting side by side, you’d see that both have their strengths. SEOWriting is cheaper and great for my pocket, but the quality from Koala, especially the GPT 4 output, is a cut above the rest.
I created and tried to rank with a lot of different website with SEOWriting because of its lower price (and apparently decent quality), and it just doesn’t do a good job.
The articles are also boring to read.
Believe it or now, SEOWriting was, and still is, my #2 AI Writer. There’s just nothing decent out there (nope, not even Cuppa, which is not better than SEOWriting).
Features of Koala
Despite the slightly higher cost, Koala does have some outstanding features. For one, it can link relevant YouTube videos! Not many AI tools out there can do that. Plus, it doesn’t charge me extra for this feature. It’s like getting dessert, but for free.
And let’s not forget the Google Scholar SERP scrape option. Now, that’s a game-changer for me, especially when I’m working on data-sensitive niches. It’s a feature that’s hard to find in other AI tools.
When I look at Koala as a whole, the pros far outweigh the cons. The pricing might be a drawback but the features and the quality of content it produces make it worth the investment if it saves you an editor. And remember, time is money! So, you might want to give Koala a shot.
PS: Editing an article takes 10 to 20 minutes… So… It really depends on how much you pay your VAs, I guess.
